About
Our Gallery includes information and memorabilia on the various disciplines of the GAA: Scór, Handball, Camogie, Ladies Football, Rounders, Hurling and Football. Kieran also acknowledged the financial assistance of Leader, in developing this community space under their Rural Economic Development, Enterprise Development and Job Creation – Rural Tourism Scheme.
This exhibition which was initiated in association with Cavan County Museum compliments the work of the GAA and Camogie Galleries at the Museum. Researched by Local Historian and former County Board Chairman George Cartwright and curated by Savina Donohoe, former Cavan County Museum Curator and current board member of the Irish Museums Association both have worked closely with County Board liaison person Anne Fortune to bring this project to fruition which was designed by Martin Gaffney, renowned visual communications designer, artist and musician. George, Savina, Anne and Martin have extensive local and national knowledge of the proud history of the GAA in County Cavan.
A dedicated committee have worked on this exhibition over the past eighteen months and are
delighted that their work will now be available for the public to enjoy. The committee are extremely grateful to the many people who have loaned and donated interesting sporting memorabilia which will add to the archive and enhance visitor experience.
Under the ‘This is Cavan’ brand this accessible exhibition raises Kingspan Breffni as a tourist
destination adding to the already wonderful attractions around County Cavan. Assisted by Cavan County Council’s Municipal Districts Funding, Creative Ireland Programme, Cavan County Museum, Heritage and Arts Offices visitors can enjoy a tour of the Stadium which includes a dedicated sensory area to provide for the multiple needs of the growing GAA family. A series of wall murals were commissioned and artists Colette Kearney and Joey Burns have transformed the outside areas of the stadium with carefully selected historical representations and imagery.
