Cavan U21s got their Ulster Championship campaign off to a winning start with an impressive victory over neighbours Fermanagh at Brewster Park. Substitutes Conor Smith and Peter Corrigan netted for the Breffni lads in the second half.
Cavan raced into an early lead kicking seven points before the hosts registered their first score in the 16th minute from Conor McAuley. Fermanagh had their best period kicking three points but failed to narrow Cavan’s lead who kicked three of their own to lead 0-10 to 0-3 at the break with Caoimhin O’Reilly and Ryan Connolly registering eight points between them.
Cavan’s midfield duo of Thomas Galligan and captain Cormac Daly lorded the sector throughout and the back line dominated particularly in the second half endured the forwards had an ample supply of possession and they made it count. The visitors scored 2-9 to 0-1 in the second half with nine scorers through the game.
Niall Lynch and Co now prepare to play the winners of Donegal or Tyrone (Wednesday 29th March) who finished level after extra time and replay next Wednesday night.
